MyConfessor: Father Rick’s app of Divine Mercy

Father Rick Heilman, whose 25th ordination anniversary party I just shared pictures of, is in the national media, including the New York Daily News and Fox News, with his initiative of 24/7 Confession. He’s installed a confessional (that links to Fr Z’s post about this with photos) just off the vestibule of his rectory at… (read more)

Towards a sacred continuity

On Wednesday, at the annual meeting of the Tridentine Mass Society of Madison, I was elected to the organization’s board, together with youthful local blogger Ben Yanke, who just secured an internship with New Liturgical Movement blog, and Father John Zuhlsdorf, who is TMSM president, having been nominated for such by Bishop Morlino. Ben pointed… (read more)

New Priests

On Friday there was a very beautiful ordination Mass at St. Maria Goretti Church. We have three new priests! There are short bios of them in a news release on the diocesan website. I attended Fr. Steve Petrica’s first Mass the following morning. He is a convert who had formerly been an Anglican priest (part… (read more)

Steve Petrica Ordained a Deacon

On Sunday we had the great joy of the Ordination to the  Diaconate of Steve Petrica. Steve is a convert who had been a priest of the Episcopalian Church, of an “Anglo-Catholic” sort. As Bishop Morlino put it at the beginning Mass, the search for “a certain sacramental fullness” led Steve at last into… (read more)

Septuagesima Sunday

In the Extraordinary Form of the Mass, the green vestments are gone already and we’ve begun a liturgical season that entirely does not exist anymore in the Ordinary Form: the “pre-Lent season”, Septuagesima Sunday, Sexegesima Sunday, and Quinquagesima Sunday. It’s on this Sunday that “Alleluia” is reposed until the Feast of the Resurrection, whereas in… (read more)

Gaudete

Gaudéte in Dómino semper: íterum díco, gaudéte: modéstia véstra nóta sit ómnibus homínibus: Dóminus prope est. Nihil sollíciti sítis: sed in ómni oratióne petitiónes véstrae innotéscant apud Déum. (introit for Gaudete Sunday: “Rejoice in the Lord always…”) The photo is the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar before Confiteor at the start of High… (read more)
