Women’s Care Center

Yesterday afternoon was the Open House of the new Women’s Care Center located at 3711 Orin Road right across the street from the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Bishop Morlino was there to bless the Center and its new chapel, where the Blessed Sacrament will be reserved–one of only a few such pregnancy centers in the… (read more)

Twelve Things Everyone Should Know About the “Contraceptive Mandate”

This very helpful summary of things to know is lifted directly from the USCCB, and was written by their Secretariat for Pro Life Activities. On February 15, 2012 the Obama Administration published a final rule mandating contraception and sterilization coverage in almost all private health plans nationwide, with an extremely narrow “exemption” for some religious… (read more)

The Miracle of the Multiplication of the Backpacks

I wrote before that I quite enjoy my volunteer job at “Vinnie’s Lockers” helping the homeless to store their belongings. There is one client, Maurice, who has been telling me happily about his small business plan to sell incense and scented oils on State Street, and asking for one of the backpacks we give out,… (read more)

Madison, give with confidence to CCHD

Someone brought up to me the issue of funds of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Catholic Campaign for Human Development given to truly questionable groups. It’s true, it really is troubling and there are efforts to reform CCHD. Because the Madison Diocese’s National Combined Collections including CCHD is next Sunday, it made me want… (read more)

Crisis pregnancy centers at the back of the bus

The Women’s Care Center is having an open house from 1-4pm on Saturday May 19th. I haven’t been there so this may be a good opportunity. This is the new crisis pregnancy center that has recently opened right next to the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic near MATC. The Catholic Herald has an announcement. It is… (read more)

Initiative for a WI Religious Freedom Amendment

A group called Wisconsin Family Action is calling on legislators to “amend our state constitution to give religious freedom in Wisconsin the very best legal protection currently available.” There is a petition you can sign in support of this. Wisconsin’s Catholic bishops don’t yet have a position on this nascent initiative. Good news! Authors found… (read more)
